Residency Space for Local Artists

Artist Residency

Are you a local artist with a project on the boil?

You might:

  • Need a rehearsal space
  • Somewhere to write that play or produce that podcast
  • Creatively develop a concept individually or in a small group
  • Have a space dedicated to visual art making

We have several dates available in the coming months to make space for our artistic community and provide free residency spaces for artists needing some space to work on their creative projects. These spaces are located within Cube 37, at Frankston Arts Centre.

The spaces will be available from 10am – 5pm and have access to a kitchenette, toilets and a courtyard, as well as being immersed in our lovely Cube 37 gallery space. If you would benefit from after hours or evening access, please submit a form, too – there is a space on the application to note what times you are looking for!

There is access to trestle tables, chairs, easels, a wet room space for visual artists to clean brushes etc., and the Labs space comes with a large screen TV which can be used as display/projection screen for a laptop/viewing etc.

Things to know:

  • The dates advertised are the spaces we have available now. If you need a space for an alternative date, let us know – we may be able to accommodate your request!
  • You do not need to use the entire block of dates in the week – you might just need one or two days. That’s fine!
  • Any equipment or belongings can be locked inside the space overnight and do not need to be cleared at end of day. However, any significant mess created will need to be cleared by the end of your time.
  • Regarding the Studio space, there is no access to the lighting rig or technical elements.
  • Parking is not included. There are a range of low cost and free options in and around the FAC.
  • Priority will be given to artists from the Frankston LGA. Artists from the Mornington Peninsula and Bayside areas are welcome to apply, however first priority will always been given to artists who live and/or work in the local community.

What do the spaces look like?

You can look at both the Studio and the Labs spaces here.

How to apply:

  • Complete the form here by Friday 4 July.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 18 July.
  • If we have several applications for the spaces, we will do our best to accommodate who we can in the most equitable manner. If we have numerous applications, we will also look to what else is available throughout the year and see if we can accommodate more artists elsewhere.

August dates:

September dates:

Monday 22nd - Sunday 28th (Cube 37 Studio and The Labs) Please note this is a long weekend – so the space will be unavailable on the Friday 26th September.
