Celebrating Community Through Colour and Contemplation
Published on 20 May 2025
This June, Frankston Arts Centre’s Cube 37 Gallery will be transformed into a vibrant sanctuary of colour, healing, and community connection as local artist Rebecca Abbey presents her latest exhibition, Community Heart.
Rebecca, the recipient of a 2025 Frankston City Council Artist Project Grant, is an abstract artist whose practice merges visual expression with contemplative wellbeing. Her exhibition brings together striking abstract works and immersive experiences designed to explore and celebrate themes of heart, healing, and community.
Community Heart is more than just an exhibition—it’s a shared experience. Visitors are invited not only to view the artworks but to participate in contemplative workshops that promote personal and collective wellbeing.
“I’m passionate about colourful art from the heart, contemplative practices for wellbeing and community, and Frankston as a creative city,” Rebecca explains. “I wanted to bring these together, explore their often aligned and significant benefits, with a spirited and immersive community outcome.”
Rebecca’s creative process is deeply intuitive and healing, drawing on her diverse background in healthcare, colour design, and more recently, colour therapy. “My art practice began as personal catharsis,” she reflects. “It’s since evolved into a vibrant spiritual journey, incorporating meditation, energy and sound healing, and the conceptualisation of sanative colour palettes. My works are intended to not only evoke aesthetic joy but are imbued with healing energy.”
Rebecca has long called Frankston home and is a passionate contributor to the local creative community. She is an active member of FRANK (Frankston Regional Artisans’ NetworK) and works locally at Herbert’s Corner Store. “I deeply value being part of Frankston’s creative community,” she says.
Rebecca’s work Celebrating the Stories That Make Us is featured in the Frankston Arts Centre Season 2025 brochure, showcasing her vibrant and contemplative approach to art. Some of her previous works are also on display in the FAC Function Centre.
“I love the values and inclusivity of the grants, which are truly available to all artists,” Rebecca adds. “I’d encourage all local artists to consider applying in future rounds.”
