Event Description

The Black Sorrows have been at the forefront of Australian music for over four decades.

Led by the charismatic Joe Camilleri — singer, songwriter, sax man, producer, Hall of Famer and eternal road dog — The Black Sorrows have evolved into one of the country’s most sophisticated ensembles, renowned for their high-energy live shows and infectious, raw, rootsy rhythms.

Since Joe formed the band in 1984, The Black Sorrows have never stopped recording or performing. They have toured Europe numerous times and built an extraordinary catalogue featuring radio staples including Chained to the Wheel, Harley and Rose, Hold On To Me and Never Let Me Go.

Along the way there have been multi-platinum albums, worldwide sales of more than three million records, ARIA Awards, Hall of Fame honours and a vast body of work moving effortlessly through blues, soul, R&B, gospel, country and rock.

At the heart of The Black Sorrows’ sound is the enduring songwriting partnership between Camilleri and lyricist Nick Smith, now spanning more than 40 years. Their songs walk the line between personal and universal, streetwise and poetic. Classics including Harley and Rose, Chained to the Wheel, Snake Skin Shoes and Hold On To Me helped shape Australian radio and remain staples of the live show.

In 2024, Joe Camilleri and Nick Smith were inducted into the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

But ask their fans what keeps them coming back and the answer is simple: The Black Sorrows are extraordinary live.

There are no backing tracks or calculated gimmicks — just passionate, exhilarating live music, outstanding musicianship and the kind of energy that has kept audiences coming back for more than four decades.

“Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows have nothing left to prove, but that doesn’t stop them from delivering shows that feel like they’re playing to prove everything. The Black Sorrows are not just a band — they’re a masterclass in musicianship.” Markus Hamence, On Your Markus

Support Act - Gretta Ziller

Gretta Ziller is an alt-country songwriter based in Melbourne, raised on a farm in Victoria’s Upper Murray. The only musician in a farming family, she whistled before she spoke, took up violin as a child and studied voice at the University of Melbourne with opera in her sights. Songwriting won out. Her 2014 debut EP, Hell’s Half Acre, was followed by the albums Queen of Boomtown, Judas Tree and All These Walls, honest songs about life’s curve balls that earned Golden Guitar and CMC Music Award nominations. Her fifth album, Work Like A Woman, is due in 2027.
