Hot Arts for Cool Kids engages young people through creative workshops led by artists including hands-on art-making, craft activities, and performance experiences that encourage participation and imagination. These experiences are highly beneficial, helping young people build confidence, develop creative thinking skills, express themselves, and connect with others through shared artistic experiences.

WED 1 JUL 10:30am: Drum Together! (7-12 years) $18

Drum, dance, sing and hum together along as we explore our own inner rhythms and expressions through the African Djembe drums and Percussion instruments.

This will be a fun and interactive class designed for 7-12 year old children.

Let’s drum together!

Workshop duration: 60 minutes. Parents / carers are welcome to drop off, or stay and wait in the gallery foyer and enjoy the exhibition.

WED 1 JUL 1pm: Emu feather keyring with Baluk Arts! (5 - 12 years) $18

Taungwurrung Artist and Cultural Educator Sammy Trist will guide workshop participants in creating a beautiful handmade keyring using feathers, wooden beads, and twine. Participants will have the opportunity to personalise their keyrings by painting unique designs onto the beads and selecting from a range of naturally patterned genuine emu feathers. Each participant will leave with a one-of-a-kind accessory!

This workshop is presented by Baluk Arts

This workshop is designed for young people aged 5 - 12 years. Parents / carers are welcome to drop off or stay in the gallery foyer to enjoy the exhibition. If your young person requires extra support, please feel free to stay and assist them in the workshop.

FRI 3 JUL 10.30am: Botanical Wall Hanging (8 - 13 years) $24

Choosing an interesting stick as a starting point, and using dried flowers, natural materials, beads, wool and ribbons, participants will create their own botanical wall hanging inspired by nature. Children will explore colour, texture and composition while making a unique artwork to take home and display.

Workshop duration: 90 minutes

This workshop is designed for young people aged 8 - 13 years. Parents / carers are welcome to drop off or wait in the gallery foyer and enjoy the exhibition.

FRI 3 JUL 1pm: Wildflower Pom Pom (8 - 13 years) $24

Using colourful wool and a unique fibre-art making technique, participants will create flower-patterned pom poms inspired by gardens and wildflowers. Children will learn a fun fibre craft while experimenting with colour, texture and design. Pom poms can be finished with optional beads and will be taken home to enjoy.
