What’s in My Event Toolkit?

The Three Fix-Its I Swear By (and One Total Game Changer)
If you work in events, you’ll know this to be true: no matter how much planning goes into an event at a venue like Frankston Arts Centre, there’s always something that needs fixing, adjusting, hanging, or saving at the very last minute.
While there’s no such thing as a complete event toolkit, these are the items that consistently save the day. Over the years, my toolkit has been refined down to a few standout heroes, items I reach for time and time again when preparing function rooms, meeting rooms, or spaces for venue hire. They’re not glamorous, but they are powerful.
My Three Trusty Fix-Its
1. Cable Ties
The MVP of any event toolkit. Cable ties are strong, discreet, and endlessly useful, signage slipping, cables untidy, décor needing a quick secure fix? Cable ties have you covered, whether it’s a small meeting room or a grand function room set-up.
2. Double-Sided Tape
This one earns its place every time. From securing table signage to keeping décor exactly where it should be (and not where gravity wants it), good double-sided tape is essential in every venue hire scenario.
3. Fishing Line
Strong, clear, and surprisingly cheap, fishing line is a must-have. It’s perfect for hanging signage, balloons, or décor in function rooms so it appears to float effortlessly. Invisible to guests, invaluable to event staff.
The Game Changer: Ceiling Magnets & Pole
A couple of years ago, a great supplier pointed out something we’d never considered, we have magnetic strips in our roofing at Frankston Arts Centre. That simple observation led us to a magnetic hanging solution using ceiling magnets and a pole, allowing us to safely and efficiently hang décor without ladders or complicated rigging.
What made it even better was the spirit in which it was shared. They weren’t worried about doing themselves out of business, just about offering a smart solution that worked for us. These are the kinds of contacts you want in events.
Needless to say, they’re now one of our preferred party decoration and balloon suppliers, and this system has become a genuine game changer for venue hire setups, from small meeting rooms to large function rooms.
