DialysArt Facilitator - Frankston Arts Centre

Frankston Arts Centre are looking for a facilitator for our DialysArt Program – a weekly program that runs in collaboration with Peninsula Health. DialysArt is a unique and nation-leading program where Arts Therapy is delivered for patients undergoing Haemodialysis for kidney disease in the Peninsula Health Haemodialysis unit at Frankston Hospital.

Founded in 2011 by art therapist Melissa Banks in collaboration with Sandra MacDonald, Unit Manager of the Haemodialysis Services of Frankston Hospital; DialysArt participants discuss art, learn new drawing and painting techniques, explore colour and use recycled materials to create art.

A facilitator for the program is required to deliver 1 x 3 hour session a week for patients. There is potential that this could become 2 sessions for the right candidate. The role is based at Frankston Hospital and requires the facilitator to work in a hospital environment whilst patients are undergoing dialysis treatment. The days of the sessions are negotiable for the right candidate and operate on a School Term Calendar, so doesn’t operate during school holidays. You will have all materials provided for the running of the program and you will be expected to maintain the upkeep of these materials.

The sessions give patients a chance to work on ongoing projects, teach new skills and encourage participation where requested. Patients often work in a range of mediums varying from drawing, paint, pastel, mosaic and beading. The facilitator needs to be ingenious, creative and also be confident in working as the sole facilitator.

Our facilitators don’t need to have extensive experience working in a clinical setting, however experience in working in an Arts Therapy environment with vulnerable people is a must. Formal qualifications in Art Therapy are welcomed and an ongoing commitment to the program is expected.

Our DialysArt program is one of great pride for Peninsula Health and Frankston Arts Centre and we are looking for a person who can communicate clearly, be independent and work with creativity and enthusiasm. We would love for someone to build on the strong foundations we have for the program as well as bringing their own innovation and ideas. This is a contractor position and the successful applicant will work as a freelance contractor, engaged by Frankston Arts Centre.

If you are interested in this role, please email a 1 page cover letter expressing your interest and your CV to Heidi Irvine, Team Leader Programming and Engagement (Frankston Arts Centre) at Heidi.Irvine@frankston.vic.gov.au by Friday 27 August. To discuss this opportunity or ask further questions, please email or call Heidi on 9784 1890.
