Local Artist Spotlight: Susie Mason

Wednesday 26 August 2020

Susie Mason - Window View

Whilst our theatre and exhibition spaces are temporarily closed, we're putting the spotlight on local artists like Susie Mason - a visual artist who works in watercolor, acrylic and oils.

After sharing the music video of local Peninsula Grammar student Matilda Pearl in our last e-news, we thought we'd continue sharing the love by featuring a local artist each fortnight. If you missed Matilda Pearl's homemade video, check it out here - it was created whilst in lockdown with her family, using odd things they could transform around the house!

Today we're sharing some of the works of local artist Susie Mason. Susie has been working in watercolor, acrylic and oils since 1969 after training with Margaret Whiting in England. Most of her works are on paper in the A3 and A2 range, although some are on wood. She has produced over 100 artworks and a range of greeting cards.

Susie is passionate about the glamorous and stylish Art Deco genre, Hollywood icons and stylised flowers and says that creating her art feeds her soul.

Saluting the Masters, she tackles the nature of femininity as portrayed in her Art Deco works. She focuses on fluidity of line and employs the colour palette of the time which allows her works to be viewed through its bold style.

The great artists of old Hollywood fill her with the romanticism of the silver screen and popular idols.

Recently, all of her images have become available online at Redbubble.

Whilst our theatre and exhibition spaces are temporarily closed, we'd love to keep sharing the spotlight by featuring a local artist in future news! A reminder of just how talented our local community is at a time when the arts are more important than ever, helping us get through the days, weeks and months.

Know a local creative who deserves some time to shine? Perhaps they
might be a dancer, visual artist, actor, musician, playwright, theatre group or author. Send us their details so we can share the love, by emailing us here.
