FAC Citizens: Introducing Olivia
Tuesday 19 January 2021
Olivia Sutherland is one of the 11 young people selected to be part of the FAC Citizens Program in 2021.
Currently studying a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University, Olivia is rapt to be selected as an FAC Citizen in its first year. We recently sat down with her to find out more about her creative career plans and her hopes for the FAC Citizens program in 2021.
Why did you get involved in the FAC Citizens Program?
I’ve been interested in the Arts my whole life in different ways and the FAC Citizens Program provides a personalised and in-depth way to explore that love. I’ve always admired Frankston’s dedication to the arts and am interested in getting involved here in order to bring that same opportunity to others in Victoria.
What are you hoping to get out of the Program?
I’m looking forward to being able to connect with other young people who share my interests, while looking at the Frankston Arts Centre and its programs behind the scenes. I’m personally interested in event management and gallery curation, but the FAC Citizens Program provides networking and upskilling opportunities in so many ways.
Are you hoping to have a career in the Arts?
I’m still unsure about where my career plans will take me, but I’m already looking forward to applying knowledge gained through the program in other ways. Much of my volunteering work is arts-based and I’m in the first stages of opening a free, travelling outdoor cinema for underrepresented, rural and regional Victoria, which will apply lots of that knowledge.
