FAC Citizens: Introducing Lucy

Monday 1 February 2021

Lucy Anderson, FAC Citizen 2021

Lucy Anderson recently graduated from Toorak College and is excited to participate in the FAC Citizens program. She will study Design and Production at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2021.

We spent some time chatting with Lucy to find out why she felt inspired to apply for the FAC Citizens Program, her career plans and what she hopes to achieve from the program this year.

Why did you get involved in the FAC Citizens Program?

I saw the FAC Citizens program advertised in a theatre Facebook group and I was drawn to the opportunities to meet new people in the industry and learn more about different aspects of theatre. I love the focus on young people and their drive to get young people who are passionate about the Arts and entertainment industry together after such a challenging year for the sector. After having very little theatre in 2020, I was excited to get back to the theatre and this program was a great way to jump right back into the deep end of my favourite thing in the world.

What are you hoping to get out of the Program?

I am hoping to learn more about a venue’s perspective on events and performances that I am involved in. Their perspective is a unique one that also provides networking opportunities for me as someone wanting to go into the industry professionally in the future. Additionally, the opportunity to learn about different areas of theatre including how they put a season together and how they market and organise their season is something very interesting to me that I’m looking forward to learning about throughout the program.

Are you hoping to have a career in the Arts?

I am pursuing a career working on theatrical productions in many forms. I hope to be in a theatre for a long time to come in a variety of roles and contexts that I’m sure will change and develop as I do. However, right now my focus is stage management and lighting design/operation in both small and large scale dramatic works including drama, dance, music and/or musical theatre in Australia.

Stay tuned for further details about this year's participants and further opportunities to engage with the arts at Frankston Arts Centre. Learn more about our Education and Public Programs here.
