MAARTS The Nutcracker At Frankston Arts Centre

We are delighted to invite you to join us for two days of fairy-tale magic with the world’s most beloved ballet. Experience a unique behind-the-scenes insight as we open our doors for the first time ever to allow access to the full-dress rehearsals of our 2021 Season of the Nutcracker.

Event Description

For the first time ever, we take our audience behind the scenes!

After two years of anticipation and continued interruptions our city is finally reopening, and with this the arts are returning into our lives. To celebrate, we are welcoming you back to the theatre and offering our audience the chance to experience a day of lavish costumes, captivating choreography, opulent staging, magnificent scenery and world class coaching as we open our doors and showcase our talented artists in our dress rehearsal and the making of digital season of The Nutcracker, set to the magical score composed by Pyotr Ilych Tchaikovsky.

This unique experience offers a remarkable insight into the way major productions prepare for their performances and allows you to see teamwork come to life. The dancers, actors, lighting crew, backstage managers, costumes, props and scenery changes - all coming together to make a beautiful behind the scenes live experience. Featuring Guest Artists from The Australian Ballet School & former artists of The Australian Ballet, South African Ballet, Universal Ballet Korea and Dortmund Ballet; supported by over 120 talented dancers from the Australian National Youth Ballet.

The Nutcracker has long been one of the most delightful ways to discover the enchantment of ballet and makes for a sparkling festive treat for the whole family. A story of magic on Christmas Eve, and the journey of Clara and her Nutcracker to the Land of Sweets brings with it some of the most familiar of all ballet moments.

With the impact of COVID-19 across the globe, dance schools and companies have struggled to return to stages and rehearsal studios and this year we will be dedicating our special digital performance of The Nutcracker in recognition of the extraordinary resilience of this art form in the face of those challenges.
