Join the Syncopaters in the theatre for a musical journey of USA’s great gift to the world – Jazz!
The award-winning Syncopators are an iconic Australian Jazz outfit. With several overseas International Jazz Festival tours under their belt, they have performed many concerts over their long career. They were nominated thrice for ‘Best Australian Classic Jazz Recording of the Year’, winning the award in 2009.
This epic show commences with Jelly-Roll Morton, the self - proclaimed inventor of jazz, Paul Whiteman and Joe ‘King’ Oliver who mentored the young Louis Armstrong in his band.
From there, be escorted from the music of the earliest legends such as Satchmo, Duke Ellington and Count Basie through to the pre-Rock ‘Jump-Jive’ era of Louis Prima and Louis Jordan.
Along the way, you will experience the hits of some famous female jazz singers, with star guest vocalist Yvette Johansson who, with the Syncopators, presented their tribute to Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald to a packed Hamer Hall in 2018 and Frankston Arts Centre 2019.
“Twenty-one years ago I played a guest spot on a gig with a local band. They surprised me with their sound: they were so authentic, so swinging. That band was ‘Society Syncopators’, now ‘The Syncopators’… in that time they have become an important part of Australian Jazz History.” - James Morrison, AO
